Aybss Dive Risk Disclosure
Welcome to Abyss Dive!

Whether you're a certified diver or just starting your underwater adventure, we're committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience. Here's some important information for you:

Safety on Board: Our boat has a first aid kit, oxygen, and qualified crew, but medical treatment is limited due to the nature of our activities. Always inform us about any medical conditions and follow the crew’s instructions.

Boat Safety: Our boat meets Maritime NZ safety standards, but it can be slippery and may move suddenly. Be cautious when boarding, disembarking, and moving around. Pay attention to the safety briefing and please do not interfere with crew activities.

Weather and Gear: New Zealand weather can change quickly, so bring sun protection and warm, dry clothes. We provide exposure suits, but not dry suits.

Activity Risks: You will be in deep water, possibly with strong currents, waves, and cold temperatures. Some areas may have dangerous aquatic life. Follow your crew’s instructions and avoid areas like unstable rocks or caves.

Shared Boat and Supervision: If you're not on a private charter, you'll share the boat with others. Please remember boats are not a playground. Always supervise children if they are with you and be aware of other boats or jet skis in the area.

Snorkelling and Diving Safety: Follow the crew’s safety advice when using snorkelling gear. If you’re new to scuba diving, your guide will give a safety briefing. Always stay within the limits of your certification.

Health and Safety Risks: Activities like diving and snorkelling carry risks, including decompression sickness, sea sickness, and accidents. Be sure you're fit for the activity and not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.

Emergency Situations: If something goes wrong, help may be far away. Hyperbaric treatment requires transport to Christchurch, which can take several hours. Inform the team if you have medical conditions that could affect your safety.

Insurance: ACC covers medical costs for New Zealanders and visitors, but not for ongoing treatment or travel disruptions. We recommend that international visitors get travel insurance that covers diving and freediving.

By joining our activities, you acknowledge these risks and agree to follow all safety instructions. Stay safe and enjoy your adventure!
